Endorses Governor Adamu for 2003
Elections
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa West Senatorial District
has called on Governor Abdullahi Adamu to contest the 2003 gubernatorial
election in Nasarawa state. Making the call at a PDP youth rally held at the
senatorial headquarters in Keffi, the zonal chairman Mr. Ari Gunde said that the
performance of Governor Adamu’s administration was sparkling and has succeeded
in touching the lives of the majority populace in Nasarawa state.
The rally, which was organized as part of the general mobilization and
sensitization efforts of the party attracted a large turnout of politicians from
the zone and other zones within the state. Speaking further, the zonal chairman
said that the administration of Governor Adamu had brought about tremendous
changes in education, rural roads, electricity and social services, that it will
be unfair if he does not consider contesting the 2003 elections. He stated that
the zone had already endorsed his candidature and was resolved to give the
Governor all the required support to win the election if he decided to contest.
Also speaking at the rally, the state chairman of the party, Alhaji Umaru
Muhammed (Marafan Deddare) said the party was very proud of the
achievements of the Governor and this has endeared Nasarawa state to all the
states of the federation. He said his colleagues from other states have been wondering
aloud how Nasarawa state was able to transform itself in so short a period. He
implored all party members to be disciplined and abide by party rules and
policies. He informed the gathering that at the appropriate time, the party
guidelines for nomination into various elective positions would be released. He
urged everybody to carefully study the achievements of Governor Adamu so as to
be able to educate the people on the achievements of the government.
Responding
to the address, Governor Adamu thanked the youths for the high level of
mobilization exhibited in the number of people who attended the rally. He said
that his government promised to transform the rural environment when they came
into office and what was being witnessed today was a fulfillment of that
promise. He said that the government had hoped to do more, but for the financial
constrains it was facing. He urged the youth to go back to the rural areas and
mobilize the people for the forthcoming local government elections
On the
call for him to contest the 2003 gubernatorial elections, Governor Adamu said
the decision will be made at the appropriate time and all those with
a stake in the state will be consulted. He noted that the support his
administrations policies was receiving from all and sundry was encouraging and
will contribute to his decision in the matter. He urged party loyalists to be
disciplined at all times and to remain loyal to the programmes and policies of
the party.
Various
party members addressed the rally which was attended by the Deputy Governor,
Executive Council members and party big wigs.
