Governor Adamu commiserates with Plateau people over burnt Jos main
market
Governor Abdullahi Adamu has paid a visit to the Governor of Plateau
State to commiserate with the government and people of Plateau state over
the recent fire incident which completely gutted down the Jos main market.
Speaking at a courtesy call on Governor Dariye of Plateau state, Governor
Adamu said that he was doubly saddened by the incident because he, as
Secretary of the defunct Benue Plateau Construction Company, laid the
foundation stone of the market. Apart from that, the market was a joint
asset of the two state governments and the losses were so colossal that it
will take a long time for the governments to recover. He therefore said both
state governments shared the loss of the market.
Governor Adamu described the Jos market as the biggest single business
structure in the North Central geo-political zone. He regretted that this
main economic area was now gutted by fire. He said that words alone could
not describe the sense of loss being felt by the people over this sad
incidence. He therefore asked the traders in the market to take solace in
the fact that God knows best.
Responding to the address, Governor Dariye said he was touched by the
strength of the delegation and ascribed it to the close relationship that
exists between Plateau and Nasarawa states. He wondered why the zone was
undergoing so much trouble in the last few months, ranging from communal
clashes to fire disasters. He urged all gathered to pray for peace in the
zone.
In the delegation of Governor Adamu were members of the state executive
council, the Emir of Lafia and senior government officials.
