National Democratic Institute officials visit Governor Adamu
Governor
Abdullahi Adamu has pledged to support every initiative that will contribute
to the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria. The Governor made this assertion
while receiving officials of the Nigerian office of the National Democratic
Institute (NDI) in his office. The officials of the NDI were in Lafia to
hold discussions on the proposed Strategic Thinking Workshop being planned
for early April 2002.
Governor Adamu told the delegation that his support for the workshop will
be very proactive and he will try to ensure full attendance of all Governors
at the sessions of the workshop. Governor Adamu stated that it was important
that every Nigerian commit himself to the virtues of democracy, as that was
the only way the country could develop.
Officials of the NDI, led by the Country Director, Mr. Wayne Propst, paid
the visit on Governor Adamu in his position as the Chairman of the Nigeria
Governor’s Forum. The workshop is being planned to develop a strategic plan
of action for the continuing growth of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum as well
as address fundamental issues of an emerging democracy such as Nigeria.
Mr. Doug Champion, who has extensive experience with the United States
National Governors forum, will facilitate the workshop. The workshop, the
NDI hopes, will lead to a multifaceted programme of cooperation and support
for the Nigeria Governors’ Forum as part of on going efforts to assist build
the capacity of the forum.
Ms. Fran Farmer, Senior Technical Advisor, NDI and Bodunrin Adebo, Senior
Program Assistant, NDI, accompanied the Country Director on the visit.
