Governor Adamu meets Non-Governmental Agencies
Governor
Abdullahi Adamu has held a meeting with all non-governmental agencies
operating in Nasarawa state. The object of the meeting was to challenge the
NGO’s on the need to join government in the fight against all forms of
societal ills and the upliftment of the economic status of the rural
populace.
Addressing the meeting, Governor Adamu stated that NGO’s must see
themselves as veritable partners in the development of the state. He urged
them to ensure that they conducted their activities in such a way as to
fulfill their objectives. Governor Adamu frowned at the practice whereby
NGO’s fought to be given subventions by the state. He reiterated that as
independent agencies, they were duty bound to conduct their activities
without any intervention from the government. He therefore urged them to
source for fund from various donor agencies.
Speaking
earlier, the newly appointed Special Adviser on Cooperatives and
Non-governmental agencies, Mrs. Sophie Embu said that over one hundred NGO’s
have been registered in the state and they were currently being trained on
the ways of attracting funds from donor organizations. She said appreciative
awareness has been generated through her office and that they will all be
galvanized for greater impact on the socio-economic plane.
