Pro-health International Medical Team Visits
Nasarawa State
A team of Medical volunteers from Pro-Health International, a
Non-governmental organization are in Nasarawa State to undertake a
one-week free rural health care programme.
Declaring the programme open in Obi town, Obi Local Government on
Tuesday, October 16, 2001, the Executive Govern nor of Nasarawa State,
Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu reiterated that his administration was poised
to tackle both rural and urban disease in the state. He stated that
government had significantly improved on the healthcare situation it
met on assumption of office. For example, there were just 19 health
facilities in the state as at May 1999 when the administration took
office, but there were now 68 facilities located in all nooks and
crannies of the state.
Governor Adamu used the occasion to commend the efforts of
Pro-Health international, which in collaboration with the state
ministry of health is providing the free service to the populace. He
said the programme has been immensely beneficial to the rural populace
of the state and as a result, government will provide every assistance
to ensure that the programme is taken to all the Local governments in
the state.
Speaking earlier, the Executive Director of Pro-Health
International, Dr. Iko Ibanga stated that his organization was
committed to bringing health relief to the teaming masses of Nasarawa
State. He commended the state government for the high level of
cooperation it had given to the organization and promised to continue
the collaborative efforts between it and Nasarawa state. He informed
the gathering that in the first day of their work in the location,
over 40 operations had been conducted while close to 700 patients had
been attended to.
This visit to Obi Local Government is the second in the series of
Local government visits organized by the NGO. Members of the state
executive council, traditional rulers and top government officials
attended the opening ceremony.
