GOVERNOR
ADAMU PLEDGES RESPECT FOR ALL RELIGIOUS GROUPS
Governor Abdullahi Adamu of
Nasarawa State has pledged that the State Government will not
discriminate against any religion. Governor Adamu was speaking in Lafia
when the Christian community led by officials of the State branch of the
Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) paid him an Easter homage.
Governor Adamu gave gratitude to God for the relative peace existing
amongst the heterogeneous peoples of Nasarawa State and called on all
religious leaders to always appeal to their adherents to maintain the
peace.
He said the state could only progress when an atmosphere of peace
existed among all the peoples. Governor Adamu promised to look into the
requests for an office for the CAN and also the return of mission
schools to their original owners.
Earlier in his speech, the CAN
chairman for Nasarawa State, Rev. Joseph Masin informed the gathering
that they were in the office of the Governor for the traditional Easter
homage because Christians considered the Easter period as a time of joy
and happiness, saying that it was a time when Jesus resurrected and
thereby provided salvation for all believers.
Rev. Masin thanked the
state government for sponsoring more Christians to this year’s
Christian pilgrimage and thanked God for the peace currently being
enjoyed by the people of Nasarawa State.
In attendance at the homage
were the state Deputy Governor, Members of the State Executive council,
senior government officials and a large delegation from the Christian
community in the state.
