REMEMBRANCE
DAY CELEBRATED IN NASARAWA STATE
The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Alh.
Abdullahi Adamu, has called on the citizens of Nasarawa State to
uphold the virtues of peace, unity and mutual co-existence.
He made this passionate appeal in Lafia on
the occasion of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem
Appeal Week Celebrations.
He said this culture must be deliberately and
consciously adhered to so as not to make a mockery of the causes
for which our fallen heroes died.
The call, according to him has become very
necessary in view of reports of ethnic feuds and violence which
have in the recent past engulfed some parts of the country.
Governor Abdullahi Adamu said our fallen
heroes and members of the Nigeria Armed Forces gave up their
lives "to save humanity from tyranny, oppression, racial
bigotry and most importantly, to preserve and elevate
humanity".
He cautioned that, instead of taking the laws
into their hands, all grievances, fears, frustrations, worries,
disagreements, interests or desires should be channeled through
the appropriate authorities.
The government on its own part, he said, is
committed and determined to see that it maintains the relative
peace and tranquility already prevalent in the State. He also
pledged to pursue programmes and projects that would enhance the
welfare, progress, growth, development and well-being of the
State and the nation at large.
The Governor announced that because of their
sacrifices to the unity of the Nation, he felt compelled to
donate to the Nigeria Legion, Two hundred and fifty thousand
Naira (N250,000.00) and a Peugeot 504 Station Wagon to ease
their logistic problems and also directed that they look for any
building or house in Lafia so that the Government can pay rent
to enable the Legionnaires have a befitting Secretariat.
