Swiss embassy officials visit Nasarawa State
The Government
of Switzerland is set to commence work on the water projects promised to the
Bassa displaced persons who returned to their homes in 2000. This was
confirmed when Mr. Markus W. Probst, Counselor in the Swiss Embassy and Head
of Abuja Office paid a visit on Governor Abdullahi Adamu.
The Counselor said that the Embassy had been anxious to commence work on
the project and would therefore work expeditiously to ensure quick
completion of the water projects. The Counselor, who came in company of a
water expert, assured the Governor that they would work in consort with the
local communities to determine the exact position on the boreholes, even
though this will still be affected by geo-physical factors.
Responding,
Governor Adamu thanked the Swiss Government for their assistance to the
people of Nasarawa state and assured them that the state government will do
everything to ensure that the projects were completed. He assured that all
arms of Government involved in the project would be mobilized to assist the
experts meant to work on the projects.
It will be recalled that in June 2001, the Nasarawa state Government
signed an agreement with the Swiss Government to provide five boreholes to
the displaced Bassa people in their places of resettlement.
