Nasarawa State parliament receives new fleet of vehicles
Governor Abdullahi Adamu has presented
the Nasarawa State House of Assembly with a new fleet of 13 official vehicles.
Making the presentation at a ceremony on Monday, April 30, 2001, Governor Adamu
commended the high spirit of cooperation existing between the parliament and the
executive arm of government. He stated that people opposed to this spirit of
cooperation have tried to urge the parliament into engaging the executive arm of
government in confrontation. He said had this been the case, un-necessary
energies will have been dissipated on settling differences, to the detriment of
the development of the state. Governor Adamu stated that the dividends of
democracy could not be realized in an atmosphere of anomie, stressing that the
people of Nasarawa State were the better for this harmony.
Governor Adamu informed the gathering
that even though the state was at the bottom rung of revenue allocation in the
country, the government was duty bound to create a conducive atmosphere for the
performance of legislative functions. He announced that the vehicles were to be
allocated to various committees of the house for their activities.
After receiving the keys to the
vehicles, the Honourable Speaker of the House of Assembly, Musa Agyo, reiterated
the determination of the house to give the executive arm of government all the
cooperation required for good governance. Hon. Agyo said that with the
presentation of the vehicles, the parliament has no reason to be ineffective in
its functions. He commended the executive arm for its support and stated that
the cooperation being given to the executive was to ensure that the people of
Nasarawa state reaped the benefits of good governance.
The vehicles which were presented at a
ceremony held at the new government house in Lafia comprised of 1 Peugeot 607, 1
Peugeot 406, 1 Peugeot 504 station wagon and 10 Peugeot 504 saloon cars. All
principal officers of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, the Chief Judge of
the State and senior government officials attended the presentation ceremony.
