Senator Dr. Abdullahi Adamu (APC, Nasarawa West Senatorial District) has condemned the recent attacks on foreign nationals resident in South Africa by citizens of that country. The Distinguished Senator made the condemnation in the wake of public disenchantment over what is clearly a reprehensible behavior by the South Africans against their brother Africans.
Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who is Senate Committee Chair on Agriculture said, “the xenophobic actions by South African nationals against Nigerians and other Africans is totally unacceptable and condemnable". He reiterated the fact that Nigerians do not deserve to be maltreated by their South African brothers after the heavy sacrifices and contributions which the Nigerian government and her people did for them during their struggle against apartheid minority rule.
Senator Adamu however noted that notwithstanding the hugely unwarranted provocation, two wrongs do not make a right. Therefore reprisal attacks on South African businesses in Nigeria cannot be justified by whatever means. He therefore urged Nigerians to exercise full restraint in reacting to the xenophobic attacks.
In this connection, Senator Adamu deeply appreciates and praises the decisive actions of President Buhari in recalling the Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa and cancelling Federal Government attendance at the World Economic Forum scheduled for Cape Town. All Nigerians must support Mr. President in his efforts to strongly register Nigeria's displeasure with the attacks.
Senator Adamu finally tasks Nigerians to continue to play the big brother role towards other Africans as we discharge our leadership responsibilities in Africa and beyond.
