Initiatives and Visionary Leadership
The
Governor of one of Nigeria’s youngest states, Governor Abdullahi Adamu of
Nasarawa State has been given an award by Nigeria’s National Union of
Journalists for his peace initiatives and visionary leadership. The union said it singled out Governor Adamu for this award because of
the pivotal roles he has been playing to reconcile communal and political
conflicts in Nigeria since the country returned to democracy to Nigeria in May
1999 after decades of military rule.

Bassa people return home
Vice-President
Atiku Abubakar recently paid a one-day working visit to Nasarawa State on
the occasion of the homecoming of the Bassa people of Toto Local Government. The
Bassa who have been living in exile as a result of the ethnic clashes that
engulfed the Local Government between 1997 and 1998, were coming home as a
result of a truce brokered by the Nasarawa State Government.

would mobilise indigenous medical personnel of the State who are in private
practice, to come over and put to good use the State's ultra-modern Specialist
Hospital, Lafia, and other General Hospitals that have been abandoned in the

Year 2000 Appropriation and the Universal Basic
Education bills signed into law
The Governor of Nasarawa State has signed the year 2000
appropriation bill into law. The bill which was passed by the House of Assembly
late last year, details the expenditure patterns of the State Government for the
Year 2000. A total budget sum of N4.423 billion was appropriated, out of which
the sum of N1.994 billion is for recurrent expenditure and N2.429 is for capital
expenditure.
